『The Cause of the Sequence』（ALBCD 025）でALBORE JAZZにリーダー作を持つオランダ出身／伊ボローニャ在住のテナー奏者、バーレント・ミッデルホフが、パリ時代に活動を共にしたNY在住のベーシスト、Clovis Nicolas（b）と再会し、ピーター・バーンスタイン（g）を招いて録音したピアノレス４tet作品。

In 1998, tenor saxophonist Barend Middelhoff moved from Amsterdam to Paris. There he ran into bassplayer Clovis Nicolas, during concerts and recordings. When Barend moved from Paris to Bologna, Italy, in 2003, Clovis moved to New York. Fifteen years later Barend and Nicolas teamed up again, at Acoustic RTecording in Brooklyn, NY, with guitarist Peter Bernstein (feat. on 5 tracks) and drummer Jason Tiemann. “Only 1st and 2nd takes can be heard on this album”, says Barend, “that is why I called the record Fair Play”.
