A tribute to ‘Trane, served up trio-style by a sweet modal combo headed by drummer Lorenzo Tucci! You might know Tucci from his previous set for Schema Records, and this time around the setting is slightly different, but every bit as groovy – warmly recorded with a great emphasis on the combo’s ear for the kind of flowing, open rhythm lines that John Coltrane first unleashed in his music during the 60s! The lack of any horns makes for a nice change in the interpretation of the tunes – especially as pianist Claudio Flippini’s way of handling them is as lyrical as it is grooving – and Tucci’s drums really help keep a great pulse going through most of the tracks in the set. Titles include “Equinox”, “Afro Blue”, “Moment’s Notice”, “Wise One”, “After The Rain”, and “Cousin Mary” – plus Tucci originals “Solstice” and “Hope”. © 1996-2015, Dusty Groove, Inc.
